Bike Friendly Community

Bike Friendly Community

In 2013, the City of Batavia was designated as a Bike Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. This designation was renewed in 2017 and 2021. Batavia received this recognition for its commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure and pro-bicycling policies.

The BFC program provides a roadmap to building a Bicycle Friendly Community and the application itself has become a rigorous and educational tool. Since its inception, more than 500 distinct communities have applied and the five levels of the award -- diamond, platinum, gold, silver and bronze (Batavia’s level) -- provide a clear incentive for communities to continuously improve.  To learn more about the BFC program visit bikeleague.org/community.
