Snow Removal
Snow removal and ice control work is handled in house primarily by the Street Division with the assistance of the Water, Wastewater, Engineering, and Public Properties and Services Divisions. Plow operators use best efforts to ensure that main roads are open during the snowfall event, and then turn to secondary streets. City-owned parking lots are cleared and/or salted and downtown sidewalks are done, as well.
The Street Division spends a substantial amount of time dealing with weather-related emergencies such as snow storms, ice storms, wind storms, and flooding.
Maintenance
Routine maintenance is handled during periods when there are no weather-related responsibilities. The Street Division has a sign shop that creates, maintains, and installs signs throughout the city.
Additional Operations
Cemetery
The Street Division operates 2 municipal cemeteries and is contacted by area funeral homes to make arrangements for grave openings and burials.
