The City of Batavia provides some relief for lawn watering and other outdoor water uses for residential customers sewer bills during the summer.
Sewer Bills
City of Batavia sewer bills are based on water usage. Because you may use additional water outdoors in the summer months, the City of Batavia has a summer sewer-averaging program that reduces the amount you are charged for sewer for four months over the summer. The amount of sewer charges you pay is based on 130% of your average use during the prior months of December, January and February (when your water use is lower). That average is used as a basis for your sewer bill for the first bill sent after June 15th and the following three months. Of course, if you happen to use less, you are only charged for actual use.
Summer Sewer Program
Customers should be aware that the summer sewer program may not apply to all of the typical lawn-watering months. The four months you receive the averaging depends on the meter reading route for your address. The four-month period could begin in May or June depending on your meter read date. Please call the Billing Department if you have any questions as to your "billing cycle" and when your home will benefit from this program.
Usage Charges
Sewer use charges (meter charge still applies) shall be calculated by applying the above rates, except in the case of the four monthly billings issued after June 15th of each year. The billings dated June, July, August, and September shall be charged the lesser of:
- The amount equaling the rate applied to the actual metered water usage, or
- The amount equaling the rate applied to 130% of the customer's average monthly-metered usage for the preceding months of December, January and February. In the case of new customers who have not established an average usage, the four monthly billings following June 15th shall each be lesser of: The amount equaling the rate applied to the actual metered water usage, or
The amount equaling the rate applied to 1,500 cubic feet of water usage.
