Lead and Galvanized Steel Water Service Line Replacement Project
LGSWSL Project overview
Through funding provided by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, the City of Batavia is taking part in a project to replace lead and galvanized steel water service lines at various locations within the City of Batavia. Once complete, it will improve water quality for area residents in Batavia by removing a possible source of lead in drinking water.
This is Batavia's first large-scale, planned lead and galvanized steel water service line project. The scope includes replacing approximately 280 lead services lines. Most are full replacements from watermain to meter. Some replacements are either watermain to curb stop or curb stop to meter because the remainder of the service line is already copper.
Stakeholder meetings
A townhall stakeholders meeting about the project was held March 8, 2023. The minutes for that meeting are linked below:
The meeting was also recorded by BATV1017: Batavia Town Hall Stakeholder Meeting, March 8, 2023.

Funding statement
City of Batavia 2022/2023 Lead and Galvanized Steel Water Service Line Replacement Project
Construction of the “2022/2023 Lead and Galvanized Steel Water Service Line Replacement Project” is being wholly financed by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF). The SRF program is administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and receives a portion of its money to fund these types of projects from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This project includes replacing lead and galvanized steel water service lines at various locations within the City of Batavia. Once complete, it will improve water quality for area residents in Batavia by removing a possible source of lead in drinking water. SRF programs operate in each state to provide communities the resources necessary to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most valuable resources: water.
